The Oracles Against the Philistine Cities
Zephaniah pronounced imminent doom on Ekron and Ashkelon among the Philistine cities. Nebuchadnezzar II's December 604 BC campaign destroyed both, matching the oracle's language: Ekron's excavated ruins were never rebuilt as a city, and Ashkelon's destruction layer corresponds to the same campaign. The Philistine people disappear from history within about 150 years.
