The Lachish Letters and Jerusalem's Fall
In 1935, archaeologists excavating Lachish's burned gate uncovered Hebrew military dispatches from the city's final siege, written by officers reporting on Lachish and Azekah - the exact two fortified cities Jeremiah 34:7 names as the last to stand before Jerusalem fell.

The New Covenant Foretold
Jeremiah promised that God would one day make a wholly 'new covenant' with Israel, written on hearts rather than stone tablets -- the only place in the Old Testament the phrase appears by name. By the second century BC at the latest, a pre-Christian Jewish community at Qumran was already using this same language for its own covenant renewal, confirming the phrase's currency centuries before Jesus existed. At the Last Supper, Jesus took the cup and declared it the vehicle of that new covenant in his blood; the Letter to the Hebrews quotes Jeremiah's oracle almost in full, and the Church has professed ever since that Christ's sacrifice inaugurated what Jeremiah foresaw.
